Frequently Asked Questions Answered

Q.
What do you mean by two-way radio?
A.
A two-way radio is a radio that transmits and receives radio signals. A walkie talkie is what most people who aren't in the industry would call the items we offer.

Q.
How far will my radio talk / transmit?
A.
Well, that all depends. One portable (hand held) radio trying to speak directly to another will probably talk about 1 kilometre depending on terrain and weather. A mobile can talk 2 to 7 kilometres depending on the same variables. A system including a repeater can probably talk 5 to 15 kilometres A trunked system can talk much further (please inquire). Q.
What is a repeater?
A.
A repeater is a device that takes a radio signal (for example from your portable radio) and re-transmits it at higher power for extended coverage. (back to questions)
Q.
What is the advantage of two way radios over mobile phones
A.
Instantaneous communications. For safety, security, efficiency and financial reasons, two-way radio is the single, most widely used communications solutions

Q.
Can I use the new Telstra push-to-talk mobile phone for my special event
A.
This service is not suited to an event scenario. Keep in mind every time you push to talk it will cost you. This service is better used as an extension to SMS. Also if the network is busy then you cannot make that critical call. (back to questions)
Q.
If I rent radios from you, do I need a frequency license?
A.
No, the frequencies you will be operating on (if they are not your own, or one owned by a company you are renting for) will be digitally coded frequencies that are secured for your specific purpose and will not interfered with designated or "occupied" frequencies.

Q.
What if I will be using the radio inside - will they still work?
A.
Yes, in most indoor applications, we rent UHF radios, which can penetrate concrete and steel walls and floors relatively well. In some cases we do need to install a repeater for greater penetration, but in any case, we will do everything we can to make sure you have the coverage you need. (back to questions)
Q.
When do the charges on my rental stop?
A.
The charge on your rental stops the day you are done using the equipment - PROVIDED WE GET THE EQUIPMENT BACK THE FOLLOWING DAY. (back to questions)
Q.
Do you offer any discounts for a large quantity or long-term rentals?
A.
Yes. If you are willing to commit to a larger quantity or a long-term rental, we will commit to improved pricing for you. Please call us with your particular need and we will do everything we can do for you. (back to questions)
Q.
Does Corporate Communication Services Pty Ltd do any charity donation of equipment?
A.
Yes. We would love to help and donate to every charity and cause, however we do have a yearly-allocated amount for donation of equipment. Please call to see about availability for your group.
Q.
Will other people be able to hear what I say on the 2 way radio?
A.
Maybe. While the radios you rent have privately coded frequencies, this does not mean that no one can pick up your transmissions. It does, however, mean that it is extremely unlikely that you will hear anyone else. (back to questions)
Q.
How much notice do I have to give when I want to rent a two way radio?
A.
We can often fill orders the same day we get them, but of course the more time you give us, the more time we have to prepare for you.
